John Garwood is a well respected practitioner in our Coastal Bend mental health community, possessing 20+ years of mental health experience.  He obtained his B.A. in Psychology at the University of Kansas (1978), and Masters Degree  in Counseling and Guidance from Corpus Christi State University (now Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi; 1990).

John has worked in numerous therapeutic settings, including: an internship at the former 'The Psychiatric Institute' in Corpus Christi (1990), Youth City Residential Treatment Center (1990-1991), Shoreline,Inc. Family Recovery Center, an inpatient substance abuse recovery center, serving both adults and adolescents (1991-1993), and 12 years experience providng outpatient psychotherapy services at Nueces County MH/MR Community Center serving patients with severe or persistent psychiatric disorders (1993-2005).

Mr. Garwood has been licensed to practice therapy in the State of Texas since 1992. He has actively maintained two state licenses since then: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor License (LCDC). Additionally, he is certified in Emergency Trauma Resolution, as well as earned numerous certificates for completing annual trainings in a wide range of therapy topics. He has been active in the community; working with school districts, the criminal justice system, and has won awards & recognition for volunteerism, including an United Way 'Volunteer of the Year' award for services provided to 'Sexual Assault and Crime Victim Services' (1990), and several annual certifications of recognition from 'Crisis Services' since 1988.

John has resided in Corpus Christi since 1978, appreciates culture diversities in the community, and has a passion for what he does.
